What is Clinical Hanna Somatic Education?

Clinical Hanna Somatic Education (CHSE) is a gentle, science-based approach to relieving chronic pain, improving mobility, and restoring natural posture through neuromuscular re-education.

Over time, stress, injury, repetitive movement, and trauma can cause muscles to remain in a state of chronic contraction. These habitual patterns can become so familiar that the brain no longer recognizes them as unnecessary tension. The result may be pain, stiffness, limited mobility, poor posture, and recurring injuries.

Clinical Hanna Somatic Education works directly with the brain-muscle connection to retrain these learned patterns. Using slow, mindful movements, clients learn to communicate with their nervous system and reset the resting tone of chronically contracted muscles. Rather than stretching muscles from the outside, CHSE teaches the brain how to release tension from within.

As muscle tension decreases, posture often improves, movement becomes easier, and pain can diminish. Many clients also experience greater body awareness, improved balance, and a deeper sense of ease in daily activities.

One unique aspect of Clinical Hanna Somatic Education is that clients learn skills they can continue to use on their own. The goal is not ongoing dependence on a practitioner, but empowerment through education. Over time, clients develop the ability to recognize and release tension patterns themselves, becoming active participants in their own healing and well-being.
